Who are you? What do you do at Vetter?
My name is Jana Mayr, and I am doing an internship to be an electronics technician at Vetter. My focus is on automation technology.
What does that look like?
I go to school all week and spend one day at the company, as part of a mandatory internship required by my school. My vocational training will take three and a half years, so this gives me hands-on experience from the get-go. I'm also learning how to apply the knowledge I gain at school at my job.
Why did you choose this training and internship?
I’ve always been interested in technical subjects. And I was also involved in the student research center at my school, in which I also learned about the problems I have and need to solve in my internship today.
What’s your typical work day like?
As mentioned, at the company it's just one day a week, which it starts at 7 a.m. I'm currently working on an exciting project. We're building a robot and programming it too, of course. It's really fascinating: you build a machine, breathe a little code into it and actually see it doing what you want it to do at the end.
What skills are needed to do your job?
Well, having a good grasp of technical understanding is of course important. You also need to be able to think logically. And then you have to enjoy working in a team, because you won't be able to solve the problems that we face here day solo. Working together, exchanging ideas, working towards a common goal – these will lead you to success here.
What’s been a highlight at Vetter so far?
There wasn’t just one thing. It's more like the whole environment here is great. The support we get is incredible, and we can work on our own things when we have an exam coming up. I feel very well taken care of here. I feel like I belong, even though I'm only here one day a week.
Have you taken advantage of any Vetter benefits?
I always have a short commute to work, and I think it's great that I can do it with the 49-euro Deutschlandticket.
What’s next for you?
Well, I hope, it’ll be similar to how it has begun. I'm happy that I'm now at school and in the company and that the profession I chose is perfect for me.
Starting in the second year, we’ll have a normal dual-training program. This means that we’ll be apprentices instead of interns and will spend three to four days at Vetter. The other one to two days will be spent at the Tettnang Electronics College.
